PANELISTS: Amber Starks (she/hers): Amber Starks is an Afro Indigenous (Black and Native American) advocate and organizer. She is an enrolled citizen of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation and is also of Shawnee, Yuchi, Quapaw, and Cherokee descent. Her passion is the intersection of Black and Native identity, where she seeks to normalize, affirm, and uplift the multidimensional identities of Black and Native peoples and to encourage Black and Indigenous peoples to prioritize one another and divest from compartmentalizing struggles.

Joseph Gazing Wolf (him/his): Joseph is an enrolled member of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and has been a buffalo rancher since childhood. He is currently the Director of the Tallgrass Prairie Preserve in Pawhuska, OK, on the Osage Nation where he manages one of the largest buffalo herds in the U.S. He is also a PhD student who is working towards a vision of global Indigenous unity for collective human and ecological dignity, among other topics.

Eileen Jimenez (she/they): Eileen’s mother is Maria Cruz Jimenez, her grandmother is Eloisa Saavedra, and her great-grandmother is Isidora Saavedra, matriarchs of the Ñätho (Otomí peoples). She is a queer printmaker, doctoral student, and dean at South Seattle College. She creates the art, the structures, the programming and the educational experiences she wishes she and her community would have seen and had access to growing up. As an artist,

Kyle T. Mays (he/his): Kyle is an Afro-Indigenous (Saginaw Chippewa) scholar of Afro-Indigenous studies, Urban studies, and contemporary popular culture. He is the author of three books including, An Afro-Indigenous History of the United States (2021) and City of Dispossessions: Indigenous Peoples, African Americans, and the Creation of Modern Detroit (2022).
